The monolithic chapel of Fontanges
Discover this magnificent monolithic chapel carved from Fontanges stone.
This chapel has a peculiarity that makes it unique: it was carved out of a volcanic rock and is overlooked by a statue of the Virgin. It is located in the Cantal department, at the entrance to the village of Fontanges. Inaugurated in 1901, the monolithic chapel includes a Volvic stone altar, a stained glass window and a wrought iron gate. After visiting the building, you can go to the top of the rock to access the statue of the Virgin and contemplate the magnificent view that overlooks the Aspre valley.
