The tales told to children are a real investment in the future. Find out why!
According to the research team, children would be likely to learn if we invent and read their stories since, these have the ability to allow the growth of children through fiction. The study, however, reveals that using stories and tales as main learning tool would allow a healthy growth of our children. Obviously, this does not mean that the activities envisaged by the Montessori method are wrong, but only that the stories allow children to learn more actively than any other activity. Here’s what the study says about telling fairy tales to children
Specifically, an experiment was carried out by some researchers from Bath who brought together 2500 children and made them stay in contact with their teacher. They have been tested in particular two methodologies: the first centralized on the pupil, the other focused on the teacher’s work. Second the first method, the children participated in some specific activities. There second methodology it involved reading some stories to the children.
The best results were achieved when the second type of approach was applied. In this case, in fact, the children have been shown to have one greater participation. In listening to the story, the children appeared much more participatory than those who did a hands-on activity.
According to the researchersthen, this shows how the latest didactic approaches, which focus more on doing than on listening, have been able to put the essence of the story back at the center. Stories have been told for centuries, since the dawn of time. Furthermore, children are generally predisposed to this kind of approach, that is, one in which an adult demonstrates knowledge and authority in a decidedly educational way. By the way, when children have tantrums, the risk is that anger will take over, here’s a trick that will come in handy.
This result it has also been confirmed by other researches that focus mainly on the power of fables, fairy tales and stories. These, in fact, are capable of to stimulate the imagination in a particular way and the curiosity of all children, especially those of school age. According to the research “The potential of using a combination of storytelling and drama, when teaching young children science”, published in European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, combining stories and games is very important, especially in the case of children between 4 and 9 years.
This is because through stories, children can understand the world and its dynamics. Not only thanks to reading of a good story adults can give answers to all those questions that their children begin to ask, a very normal condition in childhood. In doing so, therefore, they will give their children the tools that will enable them to become adults, growing not only in the behavioral field but also culturally.
And you unimamme, what do you think of the study by the Milner Center for Evolution of the University of Bath? You knew the importance of reading the stories in children’s learning?
