Ingredients
1 1/2 Cups large seeded Raisins (cut small)
1 1/2 cups dates (cut small)
2 Cups sugar
2 Cups boiling water
5 Tablespoons shortening
3 Cups gold medal flour
1 Teaspoon soda
2 Teaspoons cinnamon
1 Teaspoon cloves
1 Teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1
Place raisins, dates, sugar, water and shortening in saucepan and simmer 20 minutes. Cool. Sift flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt together. Stir into cooled mixture adding nuts last.
Step 2
Pour into greased tube pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours in 325 oven. To give a holiday touch add 1 cup mixed candied fruit, add with nuts. Save some flour to put in fruit to keep from sticking together.
Step 3
Remove cake from pan and glaze with heated white Karo syrup-brushed on. Decorate with candied fruit.
