All substances and materials that we know are breakable, even those that apparently are not, like diamonds. How good would it be to produce certain things with an unbreakable material that would guarantee durability? A team of engineers developed a material called Proteus, unbreakable and lighter than steel. Proteus: Greek and unbreakable god Inspired by the name of a Greek god, the unbreakable material is composed of porous aluminum and ceramic. Thus, it manages to be lighter than steel, but incredibly stronger, making it great for, for example, lighter armor. Because it is so strong, any tool used for cutting attempts is contorted and does not finish its job. Researchers at Durham University, in England, and Fraunhofer, in Germany, explain that as the cutting tool bites the aluminum, it undergoes extreme vibrations when it touches the ceramic balls. This way, the cutting part contorts and the tool protrudes. Although dust is released, the more energy is deposited in the attempt to cut, the more rigid the material becomes. This is because, according to Stefan Szyniszewski, assistant professor of applied mechanics at Durham University, the energy that the cutting tool releases against the unbreakable material is returned to it, being destroyed by itself. https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?vfB8xTKeHeco Unbreakable material with traditional tools Through the tests, the researchers realized that the material is resistant to conventional tools, such as angle grinders, drills, among others. Furthermore, it is still resistant to machines with high pressure waterjet, but in this case, they only weaken the water pressure. Researchers recognize several uses for a material of this scope, since it is excellent to have unbreakable material in possession, for example, for protection in more dangerous jobs or armored vehicles. Of course, there may be something that eventually breaks it, but for now, it is promising material. Proteus is currently pending a patent, but the team is already looking for partners to guarantee its manufacture, in order to start marketing it.
